Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)
At Thurnham we offer a rich play experience for the children. We are an OPAL school and ensure that children have experience of all 16 types of play in our exciting school grounds. Children spend 20% of their time at school at lunchtime play. We feel it is important that this part of the curriculum is carefully thought out and planned for.
Children play in the woodland, the ball zone, the music zone, on the scooters or in the sandpit. They are part of the decision-making process and contribute towards how to make sure the play is safe.
Children also love playing with our loose parts. Below are some examples of what we use to enhance play.
